How to get more barbershop or hair salon clients: a four-week plan

A four-week plan to attract local salon clients through search, real work photos, referrals, simple booking and measurement.

Find the leak before buying ads

Open your Google business listing, Instagram and booking link on a phone you do not use for administration. Is the location, price, service list and next available appointment easy to find? Remove the main obstacle first; paying for more traffic will not fix a confusing booking journey.

Google Business Profile setup guide · How to get Google reviews

Week 1: become easier to find locally

Verify your business category, address, opening hours, services and photos on Google. Show authentic photos of the shop and actual work, and answer questions and reviews calmly. Ask satisfied customers for honest feedback without offering rewards for positive ratings. Use the existing Google Business Profile and review guides for the detailed steps.

Week 2: show the work, not generic promises

Publish three useful pieces: a result photo or video with the client’s permission, an explanation of a service and an answer to a common question. Mention the area you serve and add one clear step to book. Real examples are more credible than stock imagery. Check whether your Instagram profile link leads straight to services and times.

Week 3: encourage referrals and return visits

Invite a happy customer to share your booking link with someone who may need your work. If you offer a referral benefit, state its conditions and keep it separate from Google reviews. Offer a suitable future appointment without implying fake scarcity. Record phone, walk-in and online appointments in the same working calendar.

Week 4: measure visits rather than impressions

Keep a weekly sheet: enquiries by source, confirmed bookings and actual first visits. Ask visitors how they found you only when useful; avoid collecting unnecessary personal data. A profile view or click is not a completed booking or visit.

A hypothetical example you can calculate

Suppose the salon receives 40 enquiries, 16 confirmed bookings and 12 first visits in four weeks. Enquiry-to-booking conversion is 16 / 40 = 40%; booking-to-visit conversion is 12 / 16 = 75%. These numbers are invented for illustration, not market benchmarks, profit or a forecast.

What to repeat next month

Choose one or two sources that brought genuine new visits and improve them. If people click but do not finish booking, fix that path before increasing promotion. Our online-booking launch checklist covers operational edge cases.
